ASHRAE Technical Committee 1.4 - Control Theory and Application

Sequences of Operation

The Reference Sequences of Operation Subcommittee of TC 1.4 develops and publishes sequences of operation that HVAC system specifiers can use and adapt to their projects. This subcommittee of was formed to improve specification and implementation of HVAC control systems by creating a set of "standard" sequences of operation that the industry can work with and build on.

The first set of sequences was published in January 2006.
The package covers a set of 19 VAV air handlers and 9 CV air handlers.  For each unit, the set of documents includes:

  • Text version of sequence
  • Control schematic diagram
  • Object list
  • Control mode summary
  • Things to consider when tailoring the sequence to your project
Ready to edit for your project, or use as a template to enhance consistent specification. Popular file formats for convenient application.
Great tool for specifying engineers, contractors, commissioning agents and facility operators.

The subcommittee is currently working on a package of sequences for central plants and sequences for Green HVAC systems. For more information, see TC meeting minutes.
